Life Rolls On Organization Poker Night...

7 May 2011

On May 7, 2011, the Life Rolls On (LRO) organization held a poker tournament at the Hustler Casino in Gardena, CA to further its cause in improving the quality of life for people affected by spinal cord injuries. Poker legend Annie Duke and LRO founder, Jesse Billauer, made a joint effort to make this tournament happen. With 12 tables of 9 set up for the poker tournament, many showed up for the cause as the proceeds from their registration dues are to be donated to the Life Rolls On foundation. Starting from 6 PM, participants gradually filled out the tables and the times rolled on. For the event, Hurley and Flexfit teamed up to provide custom caps for each participant. Celebrities were also in sight including former professional tennis player Mark Philippoussis, famed actor Scott Caan and Grammy-award winning musician Jason Mraz. The 1st place prize was a $10,000 seat at the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event.

Life Rolls On is a subsidiary of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Its mission is to incorporate action sports as a tool to inspire those with spinal injuries and disabilities. In 1996, Jesse Billauer (founder of LRO) suffered a traffic spinal injury while surfing. Through his unyielding perseverance, Jesse continues to surf today and his story is an inspiration to all. The organization serves as a ray of light for those who are enduring paralysis. Life will always roll on.
