Mauli Ola Foundation produced an extraordinarily successful surf event in Haleiwa, Hawaii complete with participation from world-renowned surfing superstar, Kelly Slater.
Mauli Ola Foundation rounded out last year's Surf Experience Day tour to benefit children and young adults living with Cystic Fibrosis, in Haleiwa, Hawaii on December 13, 2009 at Haleiwa beach. The event was hosted by Buttons Surf School and sponsored by Title Sponsor Flexfit, Ambry Genetics, A-Med Healthcare, Da Hui, and Volcom.
The Hawaiian surfing festivities included a Pipeline Dedication Ceremony where an MOF plaque was put on display on Pipeline Path. MOF crew including ASP World Surfing Champ Sunny Garcia, pro-surfer Kala Alexander and Ambry Genetics Founder and CEO Charles Dunlop paid a visit to Tripler Army Hospital's Department of Pediatrics. While there, they received a medal for outstanding children's care for their tireless work and dedication to young people living with Cystic Fibrosis.
International Pro-surfing superstars Kelly Slater and Sunny Garcia joined Mauli Ola Foundation on this last leg of the 2009 tour, becoming members and raising the bar for kids in the surf, as well as creating extra excitement among the media in attendance.
Media that was on hand to cover the festivities were Fuel TV and Surfline.com who are doing feature stories on MOF Surf Experience Days, as well as Surfing Magazine, Surfer Magazine and Transworld Surf Magazine who also covered the event. Kelly Slater donned a Flexfit MOF hat throughout the day, as did surf legends Mike Ho and Reno Abellira. According to MOF Executive Director, James Dunlop, ìEverybody was wearing MOF Flexfit hats. They were everywhere!î Kelly Slater, Mike Ho and Sunny Garcia have all pledged their involvement with MOF surfing events in the future.
MOF's final 2009 tour date in Haleiwa, Hawaii is an example of the unstoppable momentum and support that Mauli Ola Foundation is accruing for its work in providing a healthy outlet for young people with Cystic Fibrosis, and for their families.
MOF Surf Experience Days allow Mauli Ola Foundation to create a medically therapeutic environment where people with Cystic Fibrosis can breathe in concentrated amounts of saline-rich air found in a beach environment, while enjoying the morale boosting benefits of surf and sun.
