Flexfit Sponsors MOF at Santa Cruz Beach...

8 May 2010

Originally prepared for an intimate turnout at Santa Cruz Beach in California, Mauli Ola Foundation showed up to find fifteen excited kids and their families signed up and ready to learn how to surf! The second MOF Surf Experience Day of the 2010 season was met with perfectly sunny weather and 75 degrees. The waves were 1 -2 feet high and ideal for learning to surf. Custom MOF Flexfit hats were passed around the crowd and worn by students, celebrated pro-surf instructors and families in attendance.

As always, families were thrilled to see their children enjoy a day off from worrying about their Cystic Fibrosis to simply enjoy a day of learning to surf and some fun in the sun, while getting the health benefits of the sea air. “Parents commented that this was the best Cystic Fibrosis clinic they’d ever been to,” explains Mauli Ola Foundation’s Bobby Serna. A high concentration of saline properties in the sea air has a naturally healing effect on the lungs of patients with CF, while learning to surf boosts their morale.

Other sponsors joining Flexfit at this event included: Skull Candy, A-Med Healthcare, Ambry Genetics, Cowell’s Surf Shop, Richard Schmidt Surf School, Etnies and Billabong.

The Santa Cruz Surf Experience Day to benefit kids with Cystic Fibrosis was hosted by Richard Schmidt Surf School. Local pro-surfers who provided surf instruction and mentoring included: Shawn “Barney” Barron, Randy Bonds, Daryl “Flea” Virostko, Anthony Ruffo, Tyler Fox , Marcel Soros and Ken “Skindog” Collins.

Pro-surfers who made the trip from Hawaii to attend and to lend their expertise included: Kala Alexander, Nissen Osterneck of MMA/UFC fame, Buttons Kaluhiokalani and Mick O’Brien.
