MOF Surf Experience Day Tour Hits Redondo...
Description
Mauli Ola Foundation partnered with active lifestyle brand, Lost Enterprises, at the Redondo Beach, California MOF Surf Experience Day on August 7th, to benefit kids with Cystic Fibrosis. Pro-surfer and MOF Vice President, Kala Alexander spent the afternoon on the beach with young CF patients providing mentoring and surfing instruction. Pro-tandem surfer Bobby Friedman brought an entirely new and exciting element to MOF’s Surf Experience Day with his tandem surfing demonstration and instruction. “Freidman was lifting the kids up in different poses, and was our featured instructor that day,” adds Surf Experience Day Coordinator, Bobby Serna. Florida native and Lost Enterprises sponsored team rider and trick surfer, Aaron “Gorkin” Cormican was also in the mix down at Redondo.
About 15 CF patients were in attendance, many from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and from Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, California. Both hospitals support and believe in Mauli Ola’s natural approach to helping to treat Cystic Fibrosis through highly concentrated exposure to saline found in the beach atmosphere.
Some kids were new to surfing, while other young patients had returned for their second or third MOF Surf Experience Day. “You usually have to pay for good surf instruction,” states Bobby Serna, “and we’re getting all these top athletes to come out and instruct the kids for free. It’s a blessing.”
Sponsors for the day included: Flexfit, Lost, Perfect Day Surf Camp and the camp’s owner Robbie French, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Hansen’s Natural beverage company.
The waves were small and manageable at Redondo Beach, making it an ideal training ground for young novices, and an ideal condition for surf instructors.
